Pitch Perfect: Advocating for the Beauty of Local Flowers
Jul 01, 2025
When you love something as much as we love locally grown flowers, it can be easy to assume everyone else understands their value too. But the truth is, most people haven’t thought about where their flowers come from, and that’s where our elevator pitch comes in.
In this episode of the Flower Farmer Forum podcast, I talk about why every flower farmer—and even local florists—should be ready to speak passionately and clearly about the benefits of local blooms. It's not about having a sales script; it’s about being able to confidently explain why local flowers are worth the investment.
Locally grown flowers have unmatched freshness because they’re cut and delivered in a much tighter window than imported flowers. They often come in varieties you won’t find in big box stores. They're more sustainable, support your local economy, and help build community between farmers, florists, and consumers.
I also introduced an exciting new platform: FarmersToFlorist.com. It’s a resource designed to make it easier for flower farmers and florists to connect, collaborate, and grow this movement together. Networking like this is how we shift the industry.
One of the most important takeaways from this episode is that price should never be your main selling point. Local flowers offer so much more—story, sustainability, beauty, and a direct connection to the grower. That’s powerful, and it’s something imported stems can’t compete with.
Sustainability is a journey. It doesn’t happen overnight. But choosing to support local flowers—whether you’re growing them, designing with them, or buying them—makes a big difference.
Let’s keep educating our customers and our communities. Every stem tells a story, and it’s up to us to share it well.
